Tell DVLA as soon as possible that you’re no longer responsible for the vehicle. It’s in your own interest to do so, as you don’t want to be landed with any of the new driver’s future offences and convictions.

Tell DVLA online – the quickest and simplest way to tell DVLA that you’ve sold your car is to do it online. The vehicle record will be updated straight away.

Tell DVLA by post – you can still inform DVLA by completing the new keeper details on the V5C. Sign the declaration along with the buyer and then send the completed V5C to DVLA in the post.
